According to information obtained by IranWire, a young Kurdish man from Mahabad, identified as Seyed Ahmad Esmaeili, was killed after being caught in direct gunfire from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces at a security checkpoint along the Bukan–Shahindazh road.

The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning, July 29, during an armed clash at the checkpoint between IRGC personnel and unidentified armed individuals. Esmaeili and several IRGC members were killed in the exchange of fire.

Sources informed IranWire that security authorities have not yet released Esmaeili’s body to his family. Additionally, intelligence agencies in West Azerbaijan Province have summoned his family to appear for questioning on Saturday.

Other casualties from the shootout were reportedly taken to Gholipour Hospital in Bukan, although the exact number of IRGC casualties remains unconfirmed. State media aligned with the IRGC have not published any reports on the clash, and no Iranian Kurdish political parties or opposition organisations have claimed responsibility for the incident.
