The Tehran Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of formal judicial proceedings against individuals who, according to the agency, expressed support for people convicted in connection with the January protests. The legal action follows public outcry from public figures and activists over recent executions.
Mizan, the judiciary’s official news agency, referred to those defending the defendants using terms such as “enemy agents” and “rioters,” warning of imminent legal retaliation.
The prosecutor’s office stated that it is actively reviewing intelligence reports from security agencies and monitoring cyberspace to identify and prosecute critics of capital punishment. In the same statement, the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office paradoxically claimed that it remains open to “scientific criticism.”
