Two local karate stars have returned from Europe with medals around their necks after producing outstanding performances at the 14th WUKF World Karate Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Representing Lionmode Karate Academy under the guidance of director and head coach Sudhir Balli, the pair stood out among thousands of competitors from across the globe during the championships, held from 22 to 26 July.
Ndalenhle Mhlongo, 8, delivered one of the tournament's most impressive performances, claiming a silver medal in the highly competitive Under-8 All Belts division. The young karateka battled through a field of 43 competitors to finish second in one of the largest categories at the world championships.
Fellow Lionmode athlete and instructor Sinqobile Nzuza, 27, also showcased exceptional skill and determination, securing a bronze medal in the Senior Under-65kg All Belts division against some of the world's top competitors.
