Ottawa Karate Club members Kooviran Moodley, Tayussh Naidoo, Adhvik Ramnath, Muhammed Khan, Zaeem Essop, Aldane Naidoo and Lorraine Dhanpal pose on stage ahead of their martial arts demonstration at the Verulam Regional Hospice Winterfest, where they showcased discipline, confidence and leadership through karate.
An overcast afternoon quickly came to life as the first performance of the Verulam Regional Hospice Winterfest captivated visitors. Young members of Shinsei Kai Shotokan Karatedo's Ottawa Karate Club delivered an energetic martial arts demonstration that showcased far more than punches and kicks.
The performance gave the young karateka an opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learnt through months of training while also developing confidence in public speaking and leadership. Each child addressed the audience, sharing why they practise karate and what the martial art means to them, transforming the demonstration into an inspiring lesson in personal growth.
The exhibition opened with a warm-up session confidently led by six-year-old Kooviran Moodley before the team performed a synchronized Taikyoku Shodan kata, drawing enthusiastic applause from spectators gathered around the main stage.
