Yadhav Ramjathan of Verulam rises above the net during the KZN U17 Volleyball Tournament, where Northwood School produced a championship-winning performance to be crowned provincial champions.

Northwood School’s volleyball programme is celebrating one of its most successful seasons to date, highlighted by a KZN U17 Championship title, an unbeaten U16A campaign and provincial selection for Durban North learner Tahil Maharaj.

The U17 side clinched the provincial title staged at the Kings Park outer fields recently after a tense final against Greytown, winning 15‑11 and 15‑12. The victory followed an early setback in the preliminary rounds – a loss that Master‑in‑Charge Brian Gow said proved to be a blessing.

“Losing early was a blessing for us because it brought the boys down to earth very quickly,” Gow said. “The players realised that they needed to play at a consistently high standard if they wanted to progress.”

Northwood regrouped, defeated Westville in the quarter‑finals, overcame Stanger in the semi‑finals, and held their nerve in the final to secure the provincial title in straight sets.
