Bulgaria’s Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has submitted a report to the Court of Auditors over what he described as a possible discrepancy between the declared income and assets of a public figure and their actual lifestyle. The report refers to Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) leader and MP Delyan Peevski.

The Interior Ministry said the action was taken after the Court of Auditors stated that it could not launch checks on its own initiative. The report also points to a possible failure to declare expenses made in favor of Peevski.

"With this alert, I inform you that I believe there are data and circumstances that raise reasonable doubts about a discrepancy between the data officially declared by Mr. Delyan Slavchev Peevski," the report states.

Demerdzhiev requested a detailed review of Peevski’s declared assets in his capacity as a public official, citing information he presented during a parliamentary hearing on July 2, 2026, concerning private flights made by the MP in recent years.
