The National Protection Service (NPS) has withdrawn the state security details assigned to DPS Chair Delyan Peevski and GERB leader Boyko Borissov.
Peevski confirmed he had been informed of the decision through the head of the service, Gen. Emil Tonev, and described the move as the result of an assessment of whether the circumstances justifying his protection had changed.
“I believe in the competence of state bodies and in their expertise, as well as in their responsibility when making decisions. With this, a propaganda piece… has gone to the trash can. Which is good news,” Peevski said.
He also framed the decision as a response to political narratives, referring to criticism from political parties “We Continue the Change” (PP) and “Democratic Bulgaria” (DB) which have previously proposed limiting automatic NPS protection for MPs and political leaders.
