Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev has reported that Bulgarian oligarch, media mogul and DPS leader Delyan Peevski has taken 227 flights from Sofia Airport since 2018, with 181 of them operated on private or charter aircraft, according to data presented during a parliamentary hearing based on information gathered by the Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime.
The interior ministry said the review was launched after multiple signals and media reports concerning the financing of the trips, the passengers accompanying Peevski, and any items transported during the flights. Authorities are also examining how the travel was organized and who ultimately covered the costs.
So far, investigators have confirmed funding sources for only a small portion of the trips. Six return charter flights on the Sofia–Istanbul route were reportedly paid for by the law firm “Angelov, Andreev and Partners,” with a total value of 122,188 euros. Officials are now checking whether the funds came from the firm’s own resources or from client accounts, and what legal basis underpinned the payments.
Demerdzhiev said investigators are continuing to map connections between passengers and destinations, noting that international routes often continued beyond Istanbul to cities such as Dubai and locations in Greece and Turkey. He added that cooperation has been requested from foreign authorities to clarify final destinations and travel participants.
