Darren and Ferrel Govender at the Durban High Court.
Nearly a year and a half after the tragic shooting of Durban businessman Shailen Singh, the air in Umhlanga’s Meridian Park still carries the weight of that fateful December day.
On Thursday morning, echoes of his violent death resurfaced as the State, the defence counsel representing murder accused brothers Ferrel and Darren Govender, police officials and Judge Mbuzeni Mathenjwa conducted an inspection in loco at the scene where Singh was killed on December 29, 2024.
The State alleges that Singh was killed because he was involved in an affair with Ferrel’s girlfriend, Salona Ramrutton/Kisten.
During the inspection, the legal teams, police officers and the judge examined the parking area where the shooting occurred. A member of the South African Police Service photographed the scene and took measurements. The inspection also extended to Meridian Drive, where CCTV cameras are positioned.
