Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says SAPS's manual firearm recording system does not pose a serious threat to firearm control, insisting strict control measures remain in place despite concerns raised in Parliament following the collapse of the police's biometric firearms management system.
Responding to MK Party MP David Skosana, Cachalia said SAPS has not found that the manual firearm administration posed a serious threat to firearm control.
“Manual recording processes and standing operational procedures remain in place to regulate the issuing, return and control of firearms.
“These measures are supplemented by the Provisioning Administration System, strengthened loss-control processes, updated national instructions, regular inspections, verification processes and annual stocktaking requirements,” he said.
