Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said strict firearm control measures were enforced and systems were in place to safeguard SAPS firearms despite the manual entry booking of firearms.

Responding to MK Party MP David Skosana, Cachalia said SAPS has not found that the manual firearm administration posed a serious threat to firearm control.

“Manual recording processes and standing operational procedures remain in place to regulate the issuing, return and control of firearms.

“These measures are supplemented by the Provisioning Administration System, strengthened loss-control processes, updated national instructions, regular inspections, verification processes and annual stocktaking requirements,” he said.
