The long-awaited 6th edition of “Vampire: The Masquerade” is in active development at publisher White Wolf amid a flurry of transmedia development for the entire World of Darkness franchise.

“Vampire: The Masquerade 6th Edition” was announced Thursday at Gen Con 2026 by World of Darkness creative director Jess Lanzillo as the first project to be developed and published in-house since the tabletop role-playing game maker’s relaunch in 2025.

The new version of “Vampire” aims to retain the identity of the original game will modernizing its dice mechanics, character creation, and “Storyteller” tools.

With the 5th edition released in 2018, Lanzillo (a former exec at Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons maker Wizards of the Coast) says now was the time for a new version — both from a business standpoint, and a cultural one.

“Usually, you’ll see an edition begin to cycle at around year 10,” Lanzillo says of the average life of a tabletop role-playing game. “That’s usually when you’ve produce most of the things in line that would be of interest to the players, and you’re starting to get some diminishing returns. So, from a business and product perspective, that’s kind of how it works. But really, from an IP perspective — which is what I’m really interested in here, is building out the World of Darkness and ‘Vampire’ as a full franchise — it’s to make sure that we’re up to date with the current moment. And one of the things that we have with the World of Darkness is a transliteracy with the current era and the challenges that happen today.”
