Darkness descended upon Los Angeles over Memorial Day weekend with the annual Darkness Emergent live-action roleplay event. The four-day LARP is set in the universe of the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop roleplaying game, and Paradox Interactive, the parent company of VtM publisher White Wolf, was on hand to deliver some exciting news: a new Vampire: The Masquerade project is in active development. Interestingly, the announcement specified that the project is being developed by White Wolf, which handles the tabletop roleplaying game, as opposed to Paradox, which handles video games like 2025’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Creative director Jess Lanzillo, creative producer Martyna (Outstar) Zych, and lead game designer Diogo Nogueira are all working on the project, and, given Nogueira’s title, it’s pretty safe to assume this “project” is a new Vampire: The Masquerade TTRPG. Whether it’s simply the sixth edition of the game—the current version, the fifth edition, was released in 2018—or something entirely new remains to be seen. In a post on its website, Paradox Interactive wrote, “The new project is our love letter to the 30+ years of vampires that have led us here. We’re celebrating the connection between lore and mechanics, rules and storytelling. The design is focused on player agency, collaboration, and making the experience feel personal. The art direction is built around illustration, with a strong commitment to human-made work. We’re also looking at how we want to work with the metaplot in future books. The sense that history is moving and your chronicle exists inside something larger matters to people. It matters to us too.”
