A wildfire that broke out earlier on Thursday in low vegetation near the East Attica port of Lavrio and the town of Keratea has been brought under control, according to the Fire Service.

The blaze started at around 11.15 am in the area of Harakas and firefighting efforts involved dozens of firefighters, three water-dumping helicopters and three aircraft.

The municipalities of Saronikos and Lavreotiki also provided assistance.

An emergency message was issued shortly after the blaze started via the 112 system to alert residents and visitors in the wider area.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
