Coventry University has conferred an Honorary Doctor of Education upon Professor Deresh Ramjugernath, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University, in recognition of his transformative leadership, pioneering research contributions, and unwavering commitment to international academic collaboration.

The prestigious accolade celebrates a distinguished 30-year career in higher education, during which Professor Ramjugernath rose from the junior ranks of teaching and research to become one of South Africa’s most influential academic leaders. A chemical engineer by training, he has personally supervised more than 90 Master’s students, over 50 PhD candidates, and more than 20 postdoctoral researchers, fostering a new generation of innovators now making significant contributions across academia and industry.

The presentation comes as Coventry University marks a decade of strategic partnership with Stellenbosch University. The ten-year alliance has created extensive opportunities for students and scholars across both institutions, most notably through the establishment of a successful collaborative dual-degree programme.
