IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson testifies before the Madlanga Commission.

The Independent Directorate Against Corruption's (IDAC) arrest of Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and other senior police officials linked to the alleged irregular appointment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele was unnecessary.

This was among startling concessions made by former IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson during her last day of testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Wednesday.

She also admitted abusing the legal process in securing an urgent warrant of arrest for the suspects.

Johnson had difficulty explaining to the commission her recommendation in a memo to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that warrants of arrest be issued urgently.
