The warning forms part of a series of weather alerts issued on Wednesday as a cut-off low-pressure system affects several provinces.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall expected to cause flooding of bridges, roads and settlements, as well as damage to property and infrastructure along the coast and adjacent interior between East London in the Eastern Cape and Cape Vidal in KwaZulu-Natal.
An Orange Level 5 warning has also been issued for disruptive snowfall over the extreme north-eastern high ground of the Eastern Cape. The expected snow could lead to traffic disruptions, interruptions to essential services and temporarily isolate some communities.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snowfall is in place for the north-eastern high ground of the Eastern Cape and the Drakensberg region of KwaZulu-Natal.
SAWS has also issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall over the south-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape and the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, excluding the province's extreme north-east. Localised flooding of roads, bridges and settlements, as well as damage to infrastructure, is possible.
