Founder and Chairperson of Gift of Givers, Imtiaz Sooliman, on Tuesday emphasised the need for voters to be registered to vote in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at the Thought Leadership Seminar on the Power of Consequential Decisions hosted by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in Khayelitsha, Sooliman said it was difficult to be given the right and the freedom to vote.
“A lot of blood was lost, oppression, injustice, hardship, and difficulty that made it possible for us to eventually vote in 1994,” Sooliman said.
He said there was a need to look very seriously and question the reason why in subsequent years the desire to vote has dropped so tremendously.
