Parliamentary leader Athol Trollip and parliamentary chief whip Lerato Ngobeni announced their new Lobbying Transparency Bill.
ActionSA say they believe that bills backed by the Executive are routinely being prioritised, while Private Members' Bills are left to gather dust, and that this is a pattern which they can no longer ignore.
They raised the issue during a briefing on Tuesday led by parliamentary leader Athol Trollip and parliamentary chief whip Lerato Ngobeni, where they announced their new Lobbying Transparency Bill.
The bill will seek to protect South Africa from state capture by addressing the risks posed by opaque professional lobbying and privileged access to political decision-makers.
Ngobeni said that South Africans have repeatedly seen what happens when influence over public decision-making is allowed to operate in the shadows, citing the Arms Deal, State Capture and the Gupta network, the Bell Pottinger scandals, Digital Vibes, and the recent DA-linked Resolve Communications matter.
