LONDON: The Jordanian Air Force intercepted and shot down a drone that breached the country’s airspace early Tuesday, as the conflict between Iran and the US has entered its sixth month.
The Jordanian Armed Forces detected and shot down the drone in the eastern desert inside Jordanian territory, which borders Iraq. Forces confirmed that they will protect the country’s borders and safeguard its security and sovereignty in the face of foreign aggression, according to Jordan News Agency.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full solidarity with Jordan, condemned the attacks targeting the country, and called for an immediate end to all forms of escalation to preserve regional stability.
US allies in the region, including Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, as well as Kuwait and the UAE, have all been targeted by Iranian missiles and drones since the conflict between Tehran and the US on July 7.
US forces hit Iran after negotiations about the flow of energy shipments from the Strait of Hormuz and Tehran’s nuclear program failed. The US Central Command announced the reimposition of a naval blockade of Iranian ports, continuing strikes on Iranian sites of military and civilian importance amid a diplomatic deadlock.
