Jordan’s military said Friday it intercepted seven missiles and six drones launched from Iran, as Tehran continued attacks against US military assets and partners across the Middle East. What happened: A military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces told Jordan’s Petra News Agency that aircraft were used to intercept and shoot down the missiles and drones. The source said the interceptions caused no casualties or damage.Earlier in the day, Iran announced it had carried out drone strikes against US personnel and facilities in Jordan and Bahrain. Iranian state media said drones targeted Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, also known as Al-Azraq Air Base, in eastern Jordan, striking "aircraft hangars, aviation maintenance hangars and barracks."Jordan, a close partner of Washington in the Middle East, is estimated to host almost 4,000 US troops at several military facilities, including Al-Azraq.Despite its close ties with Washington, Amman has sought to avoid being drawn directly into the expanding conflict between the US, Israel and Iran, maintaining diplomatic ties with Tehran while repeatedly stressing that its territory will not be used as a launchpad for attacks against neighboring countries.Even so, Jordan has repeatedly intercepted Iranian missiles and drones crossing its airspace since the latest round of hostilities erupted on July 8, after US President Donald Trump said he no longer considered the ceasefire framework — agreed to in a US-Iran memorandum of understanding in June — to be in effect. The kingdom has increasingly found itself caught in the crossfire. Background: Iran’s military also said it targeted "fuel tanks, large equipment warehouses, silos and barracks" at Bahrain’s Isa Air Base with Arash kamikaze drones. In a statement on Friday, the Bahrain Defence Force said it had "confronted, intercepted and destroyed a number of treacherous Iranian air attacks today."A separate statement from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had also targeted Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait with "advanced heavy attack drones."Kuwait said on Friday that its forces were "currently confronting attacks by hostile drones." It is unclear whether this was a separate attack from the earlier one claimed by the IRGC.Later Friday, the IRGC warned civilians across the Middle East to stay away from US military bases, signaling that further attacks could be imminent."We warn the general public in countries where American soldiers are stationed to immediately stay out of a radius of 500 meters from the places where American soldiers are hiding, in order to be safe," the IRGC said.Know more: Iran’s attacks came after another night of US strikes, which US Central Command (CENTCOM) said "targeted Iranian military command centers, drone storage facilities, communication networks, coastal surveillance sites and maritime capabilities to further diminish the threat Iran poses to civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz."Iranian state media reported Friday that four people had been killed in Khuzestan province as a result of a US strike.Iran's Health Ministry said Thursday that 55 people have been killed and more than 600 wounded since June 27.
