The Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic, announced hours ago the execution of two more defendants in Isfahan’s “Alikhani Square” case, identified as Abolfazl Sepahi and Amir-Hossein Safari. These two young men were among roughly 60 protesters swept up in a mass arrest operation, facing serious charges, with at least 12 individuals definitively sentenced to death. In the same case, 23 people have received severe prison sentences ranging from 5 to 10 years.
The Islamic Republic claims that on the evening of January 8, four of its security personnel were “tied to a sign with rope,” “stripped,” “pelted with stones,” and “burned alive” by protesters in this area.
On the evening of July 27, images and videos of gallows being erected in Isfahan’s Alikhani Square circulated on social media, heightening fears of an imminent public execution. Following the publication of these images, families of the condemned protesters gathered at Alikhani Square, triggering widespread public demonstrations against the execution sentences.
Sources informed IranWire that they did not see the execution carried out within the immediate confines of Alikhani Square, as security forces violently dispersed the protesting crowd using tear gas, paintball guns, and snipers. Some sources reported the death of a female protester named Anahita Azar during the crackdown at this gathering; however, IranWire is unable to verify or confirm this report at this time independently.
