MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has maintained that he is the president of the nation and not of his family, as he noted the Office of the Ombudsman’s announcement that cases will soon be filed against his cousin, former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
During the early part of his State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, Marcos said that it would be painful for him to see cases submitted against Romualdez, but he would have to do the right thing.
“We have reached a point when, according to the Ombudsman, the filing of multiple cases against the former House speaker will be done soon. This is painful for us, but we have to do what is right. I am not the president of my family. I am not the president of my friend,” Marcos said in Filipino.
