MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in his fifth State of the Nation Address, drew applause, but some of his remarks went a step further, prompting repeated standing ovations from those gathered inside the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
Delivered on Monday, July 27, his speech lasted one hour and 26 minutes and tackled a wide range of issues — from developments in the investigation into the flood control scandal to the Philippines’ defense of its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.
Marcos has maintained that is the Chief Executive, not of his family, but of the Philippines, as he pointed out the announcement by the Office of the Ombudsman that cases will soon be filed against his cousin, former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
