MANILA, Philippines — More than half of the 24 senators were notably absent during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday.
Only Sen. Camille Villar from the 11-member Senate minority attended the Sona.
The 10 minority senators who either skipped or were unable to attend the Sona were Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano; his sister, Pia; Sens. Robin Padilla, Loren Legarda, Mark Villar, Christopher “Bong” Go, presidential sister Imee Marcos, Rodante Marcoleta, Jinggoy Estrada, and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Marcoleta and Estrada have been detained in a Quezon City jail over nonbailable plunder charges, while Dela Rosa has been in hiding since the issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court was first reported in November 2025.
