Authorities at a resort in northern Greece on Monday arrested the owner of a boat rental company for letting people without any formal qualification – including an under-age youth – take out jet-skis for rides.
A Coast Guard statement said the 39-year-old Greek man faces charges of exposing his customers to danger, as well as disobedience for refusing to cooperate with officers inspecting his business premises.
The arrest took place at the Chrousso beach in the Halkidiki region southeast of Thessaloniki, which is hugely popular with Greek and foreign visitors.
The statement said that in two cases the suspect was found to have rented jet-skis to people who didn’t have the required license to pilot a speedboat, and that one of the two was aged under 18.
