Prathap has appealed to farmers to insure their horticulture crops under the crop insurance scheme through e-service centres, Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies, and nationalised banks for the current kuruvai season.According to a press release, the southwest monsoon is expected to remain below normal due to the El Nino phenomenon, which could affect kuruvai and rain-fed agriculture crops. To safeguard the livelihood of farmers, notifications have been made under the Pradhan Mantri crop insurance scheme for kuruvai crops such as banana and tapioca.Farmers can enrol for insurance for the notified crops from July 25 on the National Crop Insurance portal. The last date for insurance of bananas and tapioca is September 15, 2026. Under the scheme, farmers are eligible for insurance coverage against prevented sowing or planting, crop loss due to localised calamities during the crop growth period, yield loss, and post-harvest losses as per the recommendations of the district.Farmers are advised to register under the scheme by submitting the proposal form along with required documents, including the adangal issued by the Village Administrative Officer, and obtain an acknowledgement receipt after submission.Farmers can also enrol through the National Crop Insurance portal https://pmfby.gov.in Published - July 27, 2026 07:56 pm IST
