Tirunelveli Collector R. Sukumar has urged the farmers in the district to sell their paddy at direct procurement centres and benefit from the scheme.
In line with the Kuruvai season paddy harvest in the district, the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has set up 35 direct paddy procurement centres across the district. These centres have been distributed across taluks as follows: 12 in Ambasamudram, 2 in Nanguneri, 1 in Tirunelveli, 12 in Cheranmahadevi, 7 in Palayamkottai and 1 in Manur.
Currently Sanna variety paddy is being procured at Rs 2,545 per quintal consisting base price ₹2,389 and incentive ₹1156. The common variety paddy is being procured at ₹2,500 per quintal with base price ₹2,369 and incentive ₹131.
He exhorted the farmers to sell their paddy at government direct procurement centres for the price fixed by government and make use of the facility.
