The scale of benefits farmers in Tiruvarur district can avail under the ‘Kuruvai Special Package Scheme’ has been announced.According to official sources, under the package, it has been proposed to extend ₹4,000 per acre as back ended subsidy for 43,000 acres out of 1,50,348 acres of agriculture lands to be brought under kuruvai cultivation in Tiruvarur district during this season.Under the distribution of seeds at subsidised rate component, ₹10 per kg would be provided to seeds which are older than 10 years and ₹20 per kg for seeds which are less than 10 years old. While 380 tonnes of seeds have been stocked at the Agriculture Extension Centres, another 270 tonnes are to be added to the stock soon.While 17,030 acres to be covered under the distribution of fertilizer at 50% subsidised rate component, ₹8 a kg would be extended as incentive for production of certified seeds, which are less than 10 years old, sources added.
