Political parties have welcomed the resignation of former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson as a necessary step, stating it affirms the importance of the Madlanga Commission's ongoing work.
Johnson's departure comes amid controversy surrounding her leadership, which she said had become a reputational risk to both the anti-corruption unit and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
In her resignation letter to the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Andy Mothibi, and President Cyril Ramaphosa, she requested immediate release from office and asked that her contractual three-month notice period be waived.
President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed in a statement on Monday morning that he has accepted Johnson’s request to resign immediately.
