Advocate Andrea Johnson has stepped down as head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), with President Cyril Ramaphosa accepting her request to leave office with immediate effect.
The Presidency announced that Ramaphosa had, in terms of Section 12(8)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act, approved Johnson’s request to vacate office after it was recommended by Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and supported by National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Andy Mothibi.
Johnson formally submitted her request for an immediate release from office to both Mothibi and the President.
The Presidency did not provide reasons for her departure.
IDAC was established to strengthen South Africa’s ability to investigate and prosecute serious corruption, particularly high-profile and complex corruption cases. The directorate operates within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and has been central to the state’s efforts to tackle corruption and hold those implicated in state capture and other major corruption cases accountable.
