AMD has launched a line of data centre products that are designed to bring it into more direct competition with Nvidia in the booming market for AI-focused servers and other infrastructure.

At a company event, the firm showed first-generation server racks called Helios, which it is marketing as a rival to a similar Nvidia design that is now entering its second generation.

Helios, which is to be adapted and sold by third-party server manufacturers, can run up to 72 of AMD’s MI400 GPUs.
