Message from EU's AI Act service desk, seen by Euractiv, claims it's in line with omnibus changes
The European Commission will only establish a register for riskier AI systems – required under the EU’s AI Act – later next year.
Under the law, companies must register AI systems used in “high-risk” sectors – such as schools, law enforcement or for the management of workers – in a central EU database before switching them on. But it appears the step has been pushed until the second half of 2027.
A message seen by Euractiv and sent on 9 July by the Commission’s AI Act service desk, which provides compliance support, states: “This database is not yet open and operational.”
The AI Office, which sits inside the European Commission, is responsible for building the register, the message also confirms.
