The newly elected Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Durban Central constituency chairperson, Sizwe "Mavava" Sikhakhane, says he had to be persuaded to accept his nomination despite having been a loyal supporter of the party since his youth.
Businessman Sizwe "Mavava" Sikhakhane says he had no intention of contesting for the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Durban Central constituency chairperson position and only acquiesced after persistent requests from party members.
Sikhakhane was elected to lead the constituency during the party's elective conference held in Durban last Sunday.
Speaking after his election, the Nkandla-born businessman said he had initially questioned why members wanted him to stand.
"I asked them why they were nominating me because I know there are people who are more prominent than I am. In fact, I am the kind of person who avoids leadership positions. Wherever I work with people, I prefer not to hold office. But this time I agreed," he said.
