ABC leader Philani Mavundla
The political future of the former deputy mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Philani Mavundla, has come under scrutiny amid speculation that he is set for a dramatic return to city politics under the Umkhonto weSizwe Party banner.
Mavundla said there are political discussions underway with different parties under the umbrella of parties with the intention of taking over strategic municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.
When asked if he is joining the MKP or whether the MKP is part of the umbrella of parties, the former deputy mayor said: "I cannot speak to that at the moment; there will be an announcement regarding these issues that will be made soon."
The Daily News, however, understands that the announcement to this effect is imminent. Mavundla is currently the founder and leader of the Abantu Batho Congress (ABC).
