By trying to spare the life of a coyote that menaced Liberty Village last year, the city only added to the torment the animal experienced in its final months — and allowed it to kill more pets, according to a new paper in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Dennis Murray, Canada research chair in integrated wildlife conservation at Trent University, found the city made decisions that “appeared improvised under pressure” and “allowed risk to accumulate unnecessarily,” which led to “marked stress in the community.”
