DIY SOS host Nick Knowles is set to return to television this weekend after taking time away from work to care for his wife following her surgery08:07, 25 Jul 2026Last month Nick Knowles announced he was taking a brief back from his television work to care for his wife. The 63-year-old's spouse Katie Dadzie required emergency surgery after her cervix ruptured following a hysterectomy.‌Katie underwent a hysterectomy last summer after "years of pain" from battling polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis and adenomyosis.‌Just 12 weeks into her recovery however, the stitches in Katie's cervix ruptured and left her with "crippling abdominal pains".‌In what she described as "the most terrifying day I've ever had", she was taken to hospital just weeks after the lingerie businesswoman and the DIY SOS host tied the knot at Braxted Park Estate, Essex, in June 2025.Addressing his wife's health in June, Nick told the Daily Mail: "I’ve been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it. She’s had a lot of tough times. She's got another operation coming up.”‌Sharing an update with her fans on July 10, Katie was seen laying in bed on day six of her recovery.As part of a lengthy caption, she said she had "been so unhappy and in so much pain".She added: "It’s been a mixed bag of knowing this is for the best long term, and feeling a bit better every day, but also hating how I look, how I feel, what I can’t do."‌Five days later, Nick's wife was back on her feet, telling fans she was "still slow and sore but a bit better".More recently, she revealed she was still "living in her pyjamas" after treating herself to a new pair as she continues to recover.Horrific ordealEarlier this year, Katie revealed she had been raped by her now-deceased dad for "years and years". In an emotional video shared on Instagram, she said she had "never spoken about" the ordeal publicly and had only told a selected few friends and family.‌She went on to say she has since undergone extensive therapy and described herself as being “as balanced as I can be,” noting that healing has been an ongoing process."There are times when it comes up, but I have had a lot of therapy to get to being as balanced as I can be about it now and can be is the important bit," Katie added."Things like this, if you know a woman, if you are a woman, if you’re a mother to women, just anything, any affiliation with women, I think we should be worried looking at the news. Looking at it, it’s not all men, but it is. It is men. It is men who commit the majority of domestic violence and sexual abuse," she continued.‌"In my case it was a man. It’s almost always in sexual abuse like that: someone that you know, or a family member, or a partner, or an ex-partner. Almost always."Katie shared her story after reading an investigation by CNN into an online network where men allegedly share methods for assaulting women.‌"It’s a terrifying world sometimes to think being a woman is like this, where I walked from the gym back to the car and I had my keys like this [tightly gripped] in my hand. I’m wearing this, a sports bra and shorts. I’m not asking for attention or rape, I sweat profusely at the gym but every day with menopause, so I wear this. And I’m really aware, walking, is anyone looking at me?"I was at the gym and there were guys shouting and stuff and standing next to me at the machine.
