Nick Knowles confirmed he was disappearing from TV for awhile while he takes care of his wifeJennie Buzaglo Showbiz & TV Reporter and Abbie Bray Deputy Editor for Screen Time11:32, 14 Jul 2026Updated 11:32, 14 Jul 2026Nick Knowles has spoken out about what lies ahead for DIY SOS.‌The TV presenter has assured fans the show is far from over — even as he carves out precious time at home to care for his wife, Katie Dadzie.‌The 63-year-old has fronted the cherished BBC series since its debut in 1999, but recently opened up about the need to step back from his television career.‌His wife Katie, 36, is facing another significant operation following a harrowing health ordeal that saw her rushed to hospital in October last year with a ruptured cervix — a complication that arose just 12 weeks after she had undergone a hysterectomy.Nick made clear that while supporting Katie through her recovery remains his top priority, the cameras will be rolling again before long. Speaking to the Daily Express at the TRIC Awards, he explained that the production schedule gives him a natural window of breathing room before the next round of filming kicks off."We shot 12 programmes last year, so six went out in the autumn and there's six coming up this autumn," he told the Express.‌"We start again, I presume, fairly soon. In the meantime, I've got a bit of space because we did so many in such a short time. I've got space to do other things. It's not a break but a bigger space than I normally get."The presenter also cast his mind back to the show's uncertain early days, admitting that nobody involved in the programme expected it to still be going strong a quarter of a century on. "We got to the end of the first series of six and thought that would be it. How many jokes can you make about building is what we thought. Amazingly, it's carrying on," he said.‌It is not hard to see why DIY SOS has endured. Each episode spotlights families navigating some of life's most challenging circumstances, with volunteers rallying to completely transform their living spaces and, in turn, their futures.The emotional weight of those stories has not been lost on Nick, who has been moved to tears on numerous occasions throughout his long tenure on the show. Pressed on which moments have resonated most deeply, he found it impossible to single out just one.‌"There are hundreds of moments that stand out for being emotional. How do you pick?" Nick stated."Putting a garden on the top of Great Ormond Street for kids that are up there, building a street for homeless veterans, or building at Grenfell after the fire. How do you pick between them? They're all just incredible."The I'm A Celebrity star reflected on what makes the programme so enduring in its appeal.
