The St Catherine South Police have arrested a suspect in connection with Tuesday’s murder of a taxi operator in Portmore and seized a prohibited weapon and two rounds of ammunition. According to the police, 36-year-old Andre McKenzie, a taxi operator of Arura Close in Watson Grove, Gregory Park, St Catherine, was shot and killed along Dawkins Drive in Portmore at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Following the incident, detectives pursued several leads. On Wednesday, investigators from the Proactive Investigation Unit and the Specialised Operations Branch conducted an intelligence-led operation in Portsmouth, St Catherine. One man, who is suspected to be linked to the killing, was arrested. During the operation, the police also found an FN 9mm pistol concealed in bushes. The weapon was fitted with a magazine containing two 9mm cartridges. The identity of the man arrested is being withheld at this time.
