Canadian-Jamaican recording artist and producer, D Howell, has said that complete creative control over his music has enabled him to develop a distinctive sound, even as it comes with the demands of managing every aspect of his career.
Speaking about his creative process in an interview with Saturday Beats, Howell, who produces, writes and masters his own music, said the biggest advantage of being self-produced is the freedom to bring his artistic vision to life without compromise.
“The biggest advantage is having complete creative freedom. Every beat, every lyric and every production choice reflects my vision without compromise. I can build a song exactly the way I hear it in my head,” he said.
He, however, admitted that independence also means carrying the weight of running the business side of his career.
“As an independent artist, you’re not just making music; you’re also managing the business, marketing, planning releases and investing in yourself. It’s a lot of responsibility, but it also makes every accomplishment much more meaningful,” he added.
