Repeated inspections by Bulgarian authorities have found no evidence of fuel oil or petroleum leaks from the tankers Kairos and Miriam M, formerly the Libyan tanker Badr, which remain anchored in Burgas Bay, despite renewed claims of marine pollution.
The latest expanded inspection involved experts from the Maritime Administration, a diving team, and a drone operator. It was carried out after recent storms in the area to verify reports that petroleum products had spilled into the sea. According to the findings, no signs of fuel or oil leakage were detected.
The inspection also rejected claims that pollution had spread through Burgas Bay. A day earlier, the Nessebar Public Council association again argued that oil contamination was visible in satellite imagery and suggested that sea currents had likely carried it toward Sozopol.
Authorities said those allegations were not supported by the results of official inspections. Two earlier surveys, conducted by Maritime Administration boats together with specialists from the Varna Basin Directorate, also found no fuel oil slicks or other petroleum pollution. The inspections specifically checked reports claiming contamination had reached the beach in Burgas' Sarafovo district but found no evidence to support those signals.
