The sight of a crowd on tenterhooks, all eyes fixed on a giant screen has become a common one in our soccer-mad city of late, but on this day, it wasn’t sports that had everyone in a University of Toronto lecture hall holding a collective breath: It was math. And more specifically, a mathematician. One of their own.
Jacob Tsimerman graduated from U of T in 2006 while still a mere teenager, blowing through a four-year bachelor’s degree in two. Not even a decade later, he returned to his alma mater, becoming the youngest full professor in the math department’s history.
