President Cyril Ramaphosa's application for an interdict to pause the work of the Impeachment Committee has been successful. The Western Cape High Court granted the interdict pending Ramaphosa's review of the independent panel report into the Phala Phala matter.
The Western Cape High Court has granted an interdict to President Cyril Ramaphosa to halt the work of the Impeachment Committee that was set up to probe the Phala Phala scandal.
The court handed down judgment on Friday after the urgent application was heard on Wednesday and Thursday last week by a full bench of judges - André le Grange, Matthew Francis and Diane Davis.
The court ordered that the committee be interdicted from proceeding with its work pending the outcome of Ramaphosa's review of an independent panel report on Phala Phala. The review is expected to be heard in September.
The Section 89 independent panel report found prima facie evidence that Ramaphosa may have violated his oath of office and the Constitution regarding the Phala Phala farm scandal.
