A 28-year-old man from Limpopo has been sentenced to an effective 25 years' direct imprisonment for raping and robbing an 18-year-old woman during an attack in Hlanganani in September 2014.

A 28-year-old Limpopo man has been sentenced to an effective 25 years' direct imprisonment for the rape and aggravated robbery of an 18-year-old woman after attacking her outside a bar in Hlanganani in September 2014.

Nhlanhla Makhubele was sentenced by the Giyani Magistrate Court in Mopani District on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the incident occurred on September, 28, 2014, when an 18-year-old female victim was at a bar lounge in Ndengeza RDP Section, Hlanganani.

Makhubele allegedly grabbed the woman before assaulting and stabbing her with a broken bottle, then dragging her into nearby bushes, where he raped her multiple times.
