A 26-year-old Kimberley man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the rape of a 17-year-old girl.

According to police, the case highlights the importance of thorough investigations and support for victims of gender-based violence.

The sentence, handed down by the Kimberley Regional Court, comes after months of investigation by Detective Sergeant Neo Enoch Noge of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, whose work was praised by Frances Baard District Management for helping secure justice for the survivor.

"Detective Sergeant Noge was assigned to investigate the case of rape after a 17-year-old victim reported the incident at the Kimberley Police Station on Friday, 01 March 2024", said Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Litabe.
