Heavy rains in parts of Maharashtra and Belagavi district led to increased water levels in Krishna and other rivers in northern Karnataka.As many as six bridge-cum-barrages were submerged in Nippani and Chikkodi taluks in Belagavi district. The police diverted vehicular traffic to alternative routes. Water levels in the Krishna, Dudaganga, Vedaganga and Hiranyakeshi and other rivers increased on Thursday.Discharge from Maharashtra was around 80,280 cusecs. This was around 10,496 cusecs compared to Wednesday’s discharge 69,784.The inflow into the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir over the Krishna river at Almatti had an inflow of 71,750 cusecs and outflow of 42,500 cusecs. The dam has around 87.2 tmcft against the full capacity of 123 tmcft.Raja Lakhamagouda Dam on the Ghataprabha in Hidkal had an inflow of around 12,794 cusecs and outflow is around 150 cusecs. The dam has around 23 tmcft out of a capacity of 51 tmcft.The Renuka Sagar Dam on the Malaprabha had inflow of 5,946 cusecs and outflow of 194 cusecs. It has around 10 tmcft of water against the capacity of 37 tmcft. The Hippargi barrage had an inflow of 65,400 cusecs and outflow of 64,750 cusecs. Published - July 23, 2026 07:45 pm IST
