Water level in the Krishna river has been increasing at Kallol barrage in Belagavi district since the monsoon revived.

As many as 16 villages were cut off from their neighbouring villages after 10 bridge-cum-barrages were submerged in water in Belagavi district on Wednesday.Water levels in most rivers of the district, Dudhganga, Vedganga, Hiranyakeshi, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha and Markandeya, are increasing due to rain in Belagavi district and parts of Maharashtra.Farmers complained that kharif crops have suffered damage in several taluks.The district administration officials are preparing for a possible floods in the Krishna basin. They have identified nearly 300 villages along the Krishna riverbank, and also its tributaries, where relief centres can be set up.Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan and other officers visited some villages along the riverbanks on Wednesday. He said that all efforts are being made to prepare for possible floods.“Each department concerned has been asked to prepare rapid response teams. These will act in coordination with the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force units,” he said.“Rainfall in the district has crossed the annual average rainfall of around 250 mm to 400 mm. As many as nine out of 15 taluks have received average or more rainfall. We are ready to handle any increase in water discharge from Maharashtra or sustained heavy rainfall,” he said.He said that a joint crop loss survey will begin soon.Meanwhile, water discharge from Maharashtra crossed 1.21 lakh cusecs. This is around 14,000 cusecs more than 1,07,028 cusecs of Tuesday. It is likely to increase as heavy rain continues to lash parts of Maharashtra.The inflow at Almatti dam increased to 1,26,373 cusecs by Wednesday.However, the outflow remains low at 483 cusecs, to ensure adequate storage.The dam has only around 33 tmcft against a full capacity of 123 tmcft.The Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir has around 11 tmcft of water against the full capacity of 51 tmcft.The inflow was 26,393 cusecs, while the outflow was only 110 cusecs.Inflow at the Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha increased to 13,700 cusecs, while the outflow was 194 cusecs.The dam has 6.9 tmcft of water against the full capacity of 37.73 tmcft.
