TNPA has put out a request for proposal for an operator of the multipurpose container terminal at the port of Cape Town
The Transnet National Ports Authority's (TNPA) decision to seek a private operator for part of the Port of Cape Town has raised concerns among exporters, who say uncertainty over the scope of the concession could create confusion for port users and the logistics industry.
The request for proposals (RFP) was issued on Friday for an operator to design, finance, operate and maintain the terminal under a 25-year concession.
But while the authority is opening another terminal to private participation, Exporters Western Cape (EWC) says many stakeholders have misunderstood what exactly is being concessioned.
Nine of the port's 11 terminals are already privately operated.
