Transnet has started a process to appoint a private-sector partner to redevelop and operate the Port of Cape Town’s multipurpose terminal under a 25-year concession.
The move forms part of plans to improve port operations, attract private investment and strengthen the country’s logistics network. It comes as the port works to improve efficiency, reduce delays and support the flow of goods through one of the country’s key trade gateways.
The port has been ranked among the world's lowest-performing container terminals.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed Transnet’s call for private-sector partners, saying the City has long advocated for reforms to improve efficiency at the port.
