Athens’ “small ring” (“daktylios”) traffic restriction system will be suspended Friday for the summer, ending alternating vehicle access to the city center based on license plate numbers.
The measure will remain in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, its final day of operation for the 2025-2026 period. After 3 p.m., all vehicles will be allowed to circulate within the restricted zone regardless of whether their license plates end in an odd or even number.
Authorities said the restrictions will return in the fall, although the exact restart date has not yet been announced and will be set by a new government decision.
This season’s traffic control scheme, aimed at reducing congestion and pollution in central Athens, went into force on October 20, 2025.
